UCL Academicals Mens 1st XI 3 - 1 Wimborne Wayfarers Men's 1st XI

Match Report

UCL Academicals went into their semi-final against Wimborne Wayfarers as clear favourites to book their place in their second successive Vase final. Wimborne had finished just above the relegation positions in Hampshire Division 1 while the Accies, on the back of a thumping win against Merton the previous day, had swept all before them in romping to the Surrey title. Furthermore, the Accies were able to name their strongest line-up in the Vase to date with Messers Wyatt and Benson-Cooper responding to the distinctive smell of Brasso in the Thames Ditton air. The one notable omission from the team was cup specialist Ben Day who was sadly unavailable because he now lives in Australia. However, the bookmakers responsible for installing UCL as odds-on winners may have revised their predictions had they been privy to the previous nights title-winning celebrations. These centred around repeated performances of Nessun Dorma in a cockroach infested basement fuelled by copious quantities of vinegar-like Chianti. Max Moseley would have been in his element particularly if he had been privy to Mike Gillespie
