UCL Academicals Ladies 2nd XI 4 - 0 Kenley Ladies 3rd XI

Match Report

Inspired by the 3rds boys match who were playing right before us, we were in high spirits as we embarked upon our battle with Kenley Ladies’ 3rd XI.

We were buoyed up by our manly supporters and Lilly our mini mascot and fought hard from the outset, successfully breaking through their ‘heavy’ artillery. With the majority of possession we niftily manoeuvred our way into the killing zone only to have our initial goal disallowed - something to do with a foot…. Nevertheless, minutes later our first goal was scored by Dr Anna on a break, and a deflection off a short from Mel sealed our half time lead.

Our second half was rudely interrupted when Amy’s nose got in the way of play but she received such excellent medical attention that we have high hopes that she will have survived. A quick sprint down the right wing by Susi and an admirable strike acquired our third goal; and a textbook short corner led to our fourth goal, courtesy of Sally, which secured our 4-0 win.

Jo TT deserves a mention for creating the most opportunities and hitting almost every part of the goal apart from the backboard, but we will forgive her after such an excellent tutorial on Oyster cards and TFL travel that we will never be lost on the underground again, who would have thought there was a ‘zone 9’!

After a mini adventure through deepest, darkest Surrey to find the oppositions’ clubhouse we eventually ate our tasty hot dogs and hurried into London for a rendezvous with the boys in Victoria.

Our Man and Wanker got somewhat hijacked by the boys and Goldnall got well and truly stitched up and won both Man and Wanker for us and the boys…(thus the reader can feel some sympathy for your correspondent who had to get him home in one piece!).

All in all, an outstanding result and a fine game had by all. We remain top of the league and with a goal difference of 27. Bring. It. On.
