UCL Academicals Ladies 1st XI 3 - 7 Worthing Ladies 1st XI
Match Report
An even earlier start to get to Worthing on Sunday. There was a stiff sea breeze and a couple of Meth Heads at the station to welcome us. It looked like being a good day.
We started slowly and were very lucky to keep the ball out of the goal in the first 10 mins as they threw everything they had at the goal. Claire was on top form and made a number of outstanding saved. Even managing to stop a ‘one on one’ despite slipping over twice running out for the ball. At half time we were down 2-1.
The start of the second half came and they scored an early short after Goddard’s fateful comment, ‘this would be a really bad time to Fu** up!’ We had a number of chances and managed to convert two more. They keep coming full speed at us and we did well to keep out a number of good shots. Our defence played out of their skins but we struggled against their superior set pieces and determination.
Hayley took one for the team, accepting a green card for an outrageous serious of tackles. As the tiredness kicked in we conceded a number of weaker goals.
It is fair to say that they were the better team, but as the umpires kindly commented at times it could have gone either way. We were beaten by a team 3 divisions above us and we still looked good.
